Interview With David Berkeley

David Berkeley

David Berkley’s music will warm your heart. If you like beautiful voices with acoustic guitar you will love his music. Check him out!

Behind The Scenes With David Berkley:

Q: Where are you from?

A: Born in New Jersey. Lived in Brooklyn for a long time and Atlanta and Corsica and now live in the Bay Area.

Q: What type of music do you play?

A: I try to play pretty music. Stuff that draws you in, makes you listen and think. Maybe you could call it indie-folk?

Q: What is the best advice you have for people who want to break into the music industry?

A:If you want to be on the biz side of the industry, I’m not sure what I’d tell you. Maybe I’d suggest you try to sell bridges instead. If you want to be a professional musician, I’d maybe suggest you remember that for every hour you’re on stage, there’s 23 that you aren’t. But if you’re committed, I’d say start local. Build a dedicated and hungry fan base where you live. Surround yourself with people who you want to be surrounded by. Stay true to whatever passion led you down the road in the first place.

Q: How old were you when you started performing?

A: I was singing on stage when I was about 4. But I didn’t start performing my music until my mid 20s.

Q: How many years have you been writing music for?

A: 10, give or take a couple.

Q: Where would your dream place be to perform at?

A: I used to say Red Rocks. But then I discovered a Berkeley Castle in England that I think would be a pretty appropriate one.

Q: What inspires you to write music?

A:Traveling, storms, literature, my girl.

Q: What’s the song you need to listen to when your feeling down?

A: There isn’t one. But to play, how about The Shining by Badly Drawn Boy.

Q: What’s your favorite band?

A: Depends on the day. But I’ve been pretty fond of Wilco for a while.

Q: What’s your favorite song?

A: I never get tired of American Tune by Paul Simon. Hold On by Tom Waits kills me. I like Lucinda Williams’ Jackson, for personal reasons.

Q: Who is your hero?

A: Tom Waits, now that he’s on my brain.

Q:If you could have three wishes come true what would they be and why?

A: One wish would be that the question only asked for 2 wishes. And the other would be to have two of me so that I could tour without leaving my kids.

Q: When is your next album coming out?

A: January 25th, 2011

Q: When is your next concert?

A: Dec 10 at the Starry Plough in Berkeley. Or if after that date: January 25th at Rockwood Stage II.

Q: Where do you see your band in 5 years from now?

A: Playing Berkeley Castle

Q: What is your dream?

A: Maybe that second wish from above.

Q: If you could be in any place right now where would it be?

A: Hell, for continuity sake, Berkeley Castle.

Q: If you were stuck on an island what three items would you bring?

A: A high speed motor boat loaded with a huge full tank of gas, some kind of big harpoon to fish with and a massive jug of water.

Q: If you were trapped in a room what three people would you want to be with?

A: Billy Collins, Tom Waits and my wife.

Q: What musician would you want to go on a date with and why?

A: Neil Young. There wouldn’t be any worry of cheating on my wife. And who wouldn’t want to roll out with Neil?

Q: Favorite quote?

A:“There’s no you in I” –overheard that last night as a girl was breaking up with a guy. It was really hard not to laugh.

Interview With Moon Hooch

Moon Hooch

Moon Hooch will get you dancing out of your seats! Their music will inspire and fascinate you. Check them out today!

Q: What state did you grow up in?

A:Mike Wilbur (tenor saxophone) grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts and moved to New York 2 years ago. Wenzl McGowen (tenor saxophone) was born in Spain, lived in Austria and Germany, then moved to Portugal, and has lived the past three years in New York. James Muschler (drums) grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to New York 3 years ago.

Q: What style of music do you play?

A: We all have a strong background in jazz and classical music.  In Moon Hooch, we strive to emulate the sound of electronic dance music with live acoustic instruments. We draw upon our jazz and classical influences to produce a unique musical aesthetic.

Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?

A: Collectively, our biggest inspirations include John Coltrane, Radiohead, Gyorgy Ligeti, Indian Classical Music, Deadmau5, and Calvin Harris.

Q: At what age did you start performing/playing/singing?

A: Moon Hooch formed in July of 2010, though we have all been playing and performing music since childhood.

Q: What goal do you hope to accomplish in the next year?

A: We’re going to write lots of material in the next few months and hope to have a CD recorded by early spring.

Q: If you could interview with any guest dead or alive who would it be and why?

A: Hm.. interview with anyone. dead or alive.. I’d say the Neanderthal that invented the first bone flute 43,000 – 82,000 years ago.  We would like to meet him/her and thank them for inventing the predecessor to the saxophone.  I know, it’s dorky.

Q;What piece of advice would you like to share with people looking to break into the entertainment industry successfully?

A: If you want to make it into the entertainment industry, you might want to ask someone else, because we have no idea. We just love music and hope people love it back.

Q:What education did you take that got you into the career you are in today?

A: The three of us met while attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.  Wenzl is out of school.  Mike is a junior at the New School.  James is in his senior year at the New School.

Interview With Neil Thomas

Neil Thomas

Neil Thomas is an incredibly talented and cute singer/songwriter. If you love John Mayer, I guarantee you will fall in love with this mans music. His sweet voice will warm your heart like hot chocolate on a cold day. Checkout his music, vote for your favorite song and become a fan today!

Behind The Scenes With Neil Thomas:

Q: What state did you grow up in?

A: I grew up in twickenham, west london, which famous for its huge rugby ground. i didn’t really hang out there much growing up as i went to a school in central london. it was a bit of a bummer living so far from most of my classmates but it meant that i stayed in and messed about on the guitar rather than go out and get drunk!

Q: What style of music do you play?

A: tough question to answer. you tell me! i try to write songs that have a definite idea behind them, but the style changes according to the theme. i don’t come from a musical ‘scene’, so i like to try a bit of everything.

Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?

A: It’s between three people:

1. Jimi Hendrix. everything that man did was amazing. effortlessly cool,

2. Stevie Wonder: one of the greatest musicians of all time

3. Joni Mitchell: her song Both Sides Now made me want to write songs.

Q: At what age did you start performing/playing/singing?

A: When i was sixteen, my mum taught me a few chords on a spanish guitar she bought in the 1970s for £5. i bought a bashed-up Les Paul copy (by Avon who make cleaning products, makeup etc!) in a second-hand shop and I started to learn Alanis Morrisette songs, ac/dc riffs and solos… and then i discovered hendrix. his guitar playing and imagination blew my mind. i bought a drum kit when i was 19, became obsessed with Bernard Purdie, legendary session drummer, and am still trying to master his grooves even now. i never considered myself a singer until i was 21 but my friends seemed to think i could do a decent impersonation of chet baker and stevie wonder and there didn’t seem to be many tuneful male singers around.

Q: What goal do you hope to accomplish in the next year?

A: Put a record out, play a bunch of shows, meet some lovely people. the usual!

Q: If you could interview with any guest dead or alive who would it be and why?

A: They say you should never meet your heroes so I’ll pick someone outside of music… Louis CK. He’s the funniest standup comedian alive and incredibly clever.

Q: What piece of advice would you like to share with people looking to break into the entertainment industry successfully?

A: Work on your craft. there’s an amazing interview i saw on the internet with michael jackson explaining that he used to study his heroes obsessively, note for note, move for move. that said, don’t make the best album anyone’s NEVER heard… get your stuff out there. play shows, make your recordings available on the internet… if you believe in what you do so will other people.

Q: How many years were you fighting to get to where you are today and what was that time in your life like?

A: I’m nowhere near where i want to be right now but i’m on my way. i’m still fighting and it’s tough to keep yourself motivated sometimes when you’re doing it all on your own. you don’t have the moral support that you have in a band, but i believe in my music and i know it’s just a matter of hard work and dedication.

Q: What course/classes would you recommend someone take if they want to be a professional singer?

A: I’m a self-taught musician but i did come across a singing teacher on youtube called Dileesa Hunter. look her up. she knows what she’s talking about!

Q: What education did you take that got you into the career you are in today?

A: I didn’t study music at school. i wanted to be a lawyer, but when music took over from my studies i didn’t get the grades i needed to get into oxford university, so i decided to do a music course. i got a diploma in popular music performance which in turn got me onto a course at LIPA in Liverpool (set up by Paul McCartney in the mid-1990s). i loved living in liverpool and being around so many creative people but i still consider myself self-taught.

Q: Does music run in the family?

A: my mum has a very musical ear, getting a tune out of anything: ukulele, accordion… Hawaiian nose flute (seriously). she can sight-read on the piano but she has no patience for practice. i still hear her play the same pieces with the same mistakes in the same places! my dad played the trumpet and got to grade 8 theory (i have no idea what that means!) when he was young but he’s more or less tone-deaf (sorry dad but you know it’s true!)… my sister’s got a great ear too. in fact, two of them. she used to play cello and had a good feel for it, and i seem to remember from long car journeys that she sings very sweetly too…

Katie DiCicco

Katie is a talented up and coming pop/dance/electro singer from NYC. She won the ‘ Best Vocal Performance” at the New York City International FIlm Festival and performed at the Closing Awards Ceremony! Her sexy tunes will get you dancing and turn you onto her music. Check out her sexy music videos(links posted below). Katie is becoming a pop sensation! Become a fan of  today!

Q: What is the name of your band?

A: I’m a solo artist.

Q: Where are you from?

A: From NYC, but have been bicoastal my entire life (NYC-LA).

Q: What type of music do you play?

A:Electro/Dance/Pop

Q: What is the best advice you have for people who want to break into the music industry?

A: Be persistent and collaborate with as many producers and artists as possible. You never know where random projects will lead you. Also, you have to make music your “Plan-A”.

Q: How old were you when you started performing?

A: All my life! My dad, Bobby DiCicco, was kind of a big deal actor in the 70s in movies directed by Steven Spielberg, and my sister, Jessica DiCicco, is an Emmy –nominated actress, so I guess performing is part of my DNA.

I took dance when I was a baby, and I started performing when I was very young… probably 4 or something. I would perform any chance I had: At school, with family, in public restrooms (when alone) and definitely in my room in front of the mirror—definitely.

Q: How many years have you been writing music for?

A: My third grade teacher told me that I would be a writer, because I could never put my pencil down during “free-write”.  I started writing poetry and songs when I was about 9. But it wasn’t until I was around 14 when I actually took my songwriting seriously. When I was 18, I started writing for Yeah Music Productions—a writing camp started by Bad Boy’s John Eaton—and my songs were shopped around to established artists like Janet Jackson, B2K and Brandy.

Q: Where would your dream place be to perform at?

A: Other than the staples like MSG, I would say at the Grammy’s! But I think it would be really cool to perform for the soldiers overseas. I love the feeling of giving back. And since I’ve received some fan mail from soldiers requesting that I perform out there, I’d really like to make that happen one day.

Q: What inspires you to write music?

A: Literally everything and everyone inspires me. Seriously. I wrote an entire song about fishnet stockings. A lot of people say they are most inspired when they are sad and angry, but I write when I’m happy, too. The best part about writing songs is capturing a certain mood and emotion and turning it into melody, lyrics, and harmonies—Very therapeutic.

Q: What’s the song you need to listen to when you’re feeling down?

A: Maybe Coldplay?

Q: What’s your favorite band?

A: I don’t think anyone likes this question, because everyone has more than one favorite band. I used to listen to Hole and Nirvana all of the time. Recently, I’ve been listening to Reggie Watts, Muse, Broken Bells and Das Racist.

Q: What’s your favorite song?

A: Again, this in an unfair question.  Hmmmm… “Use Me Up” –Bill Withers, “Homme”–Brazilian Girls, and every song that I’ve said, “OMG, I love this song!” , while intoxicated at a bar.q

Q: Who is your hero?

A: Anyone who has overcome severe tragedy and pain and is still optimistic. Oh, and Celebrity Food Chef Giada de Laurentis, because she’s an amazing cook and has managed to keep her figure. She’s not even French!

Q: If you could have three wishes come true what would they be and why?

A: This response may sound Ms. America-eske, but: 1) World Peace; 2) World Hunger; 3) Incarcerate all politicians, except for the Tea Party, of course.

Q: When is your next album coming out?

A: My album is still in the works (thinking summer 2011). But my next single, “Justify Sex” (follow up to “Chica Bomb” with Dan Balan), was just released in five countries, and the music video is b-a-n-a-n-a-s!

Q: When is your next concert?

A: I perform shows that sometimes just come up, so I never know for sure. But I will be performing at Ella Lounge, NYC with Kinetics & One Love (doing their original version of “Airplanes” by B.O.B) and the Bitter End in November. Also, at Holiday Blues: Musical Charity Showcase in December (dates and times will be listed on my site: http://www.myspace.com/katiedicicco.

Q: Where do you see your band in 5 years from now?

A: I see my music career blossoming into a beautiful flower that never wilts.

Q: What is your dream?

A: To make all my dreams realities. That, and to workout every day with Gaby Boterashvili of Infinity Body. He’s the best trainer I’ve ever had!

Q: If you could be in any place right now where would it be?

A: I’m already here: NYC, baby! Fall is the best season ever to be in New York.

Q: If you were stuck on an island what three items would you bring?

A: My pad and my pen, and Xante—cognac based pear liqueur. It’s delish.

Q: If you were trapped in a room what three people would you want to be with?

A: Ellen DeGenerous, Plato and Fabio. One needs to laugh, be intellectually stimulated and have some “eye candy”.

Q: What musician would you want to go on a date with and why?

A: Slash. Enough said.

Q: Favorite quote?

A: “A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you, the less you know.” –Diane Arbus

ZanaD: What type of music do you play?

Liz: Acoustic Pop/Folk  – with hints of blues, jazz and country

ZanaD: What is the best advice you have for people who want to break

into the music industry?

Liz: Just be yourself and write music that is true to who you are. … And then of course play shows as much as possible.

ZanaD: How old were you when you started performing?

Liz: 15

ZanaD: How many years have you been writing music for?

Liz: 8 years!  Ah!  That’s hard to believe!

ZanaD: Where would your dream place be to perform at?

Liz: I would love to one day go back to my college, Berklee College of Music in Boston, and play to a full house at the beautiful Berklee Performance Center.  The students and teachers at Berklee have become my great big family.  I am so grateful for all they’ve taught me and to play there again would be so special.

ZanaD: What inspires you to write music?

Liz: I often write to heal from my life experiences.  It’s very important to me that I connect with people and I’ve found the best way to do that is to share my life stories… as hard as that was at first.  The best part is in return, listeners often feel comfortable sharing their incredibly touching personal stories.  I’m honored to have that kind of relationship with a lot of my fans.

ZanaD: Whats the song you need to listen to when your feeling down?

Liz: I don’t have a particular song that I listen to when I’m down but listening to Bon Iver’s album “For Emma, Forever Ago” makes everything better all the time. 🙂

ZanaD: What’s your favorite band?

Liz: Right now I love Phoenix!!  Their new record is amazing.

ZanaD: Whats your favorite song?  My favorite song… well that is impossible because I have a bazillion favorite songs.  BUT at this very moment my favorite song is “Brighter than Sunshine” by Aqualung.

Liz: Who is your hero?  I have a few musical heros… Paula Cole, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and The Weepies.

ZanaD: When is your next album coming out?

Liz: I just released my 3rd album “Hot Loose Wire”…  Haven’t started thinking beyond that yet! 🙂

ZanaD: When is your next concert?

Liz: Nov 7th – I’m opening for the lovely Mindy Smith at Tupelo Music Hall in White River Junction, VT!

ZanaD: Where do you see your band in 5 years from now?

Liz: Hopefully just playing a bunch of shows on the road… With more states, more countries, more stories and more songs under my belt.

ZanaD: What is your dream?

Liz: To touch people with heartfelt music.

ZanaD: If you could be in any place right now where would it be?

Liz: In my NYC apartment with my guitar in my hands.

ZanaD: If you were stuck on an island what three items would you bring?

Liz: Guitar, iPad and mouthwash.

ZanaD: If you were trapped in a room what three people would you want to be with?

Liz: My mom, my best friend and … Taylor Swift.  ha!  That’d be interesting.

ZanaD: What musician would you want to go on a date with and why?

Liz: Ryan Adams … in hopes to get a private concert.

Thanks Liz!
